Djurgårdens claimed a 0:2 victory over Mjällby at Strandvallen in the Allsvenskan's tenth round on Wednesday evening. The result extends the visitors' strong away form and moves them further clear in third place, while Mjällby remain rooted in twelfth.
The match offered little excitement in terms of clear-cut opportunities. Mjällby controlled possession at 55 per cent and registered 115 attacks, yet managed only four shots on target from eight attempts. Djurgårdens, operating with 45 per cent of the ball, produced three shots on target from nine attempts and created five big chances compared to their hosts' four.
Discipline proved to be a factor throughout. Viktor Gustafson received a yellow card for Mjällby in the nineteenth minute, followed by Oskar Fallenius for Djurgårdens forty-three minutes in. Villum Dalsgaard came on for his side in the fifteenth minute, a change that did not shift the balance of play.
Mjällby's defensive work was extensive. They made 19 clearances, attempted 15 tackles with ten successful, and lost 33 aerial duels—though they won 17 of those. Djurgårdens were more conservative, making 32 clearances and winning 21 of 33 tackles, while also losing 33 aerial battles but securing 17.
The visitors' away record continues to impress. This victory came just three days after a 4:0 demolition of Mjällby at home, suggesting their recent form has been consistent. Mjällby, meanwhile, have now lost four of their last five matches, including defeats to Red Bull Salzburg and Slovan Bratislava in European competition.
With thirty-two points from eighteen games, Djurgårdens hold a twelve-point cushion over Mjällby's twenty points from seventeen matches. The gap will only widen if the home side cannot find a response on Saturday.
