Volendam beat Den Bosch 2-0 in the Eerste Divisie on Sunday evening to move within touching distance of the top half. Henk Veerman opened the scoring in the 53rd minute before Reuven Niemeijer doubled the lead eleven minutes later. The result lifts the hosts to 11th place on nine points from six games.
Den Bosch had the better of the early exchanges, but Volendam's defence held firm. Three yellow cards came in quick succession before half-time — Mike Kleijn for the hosts, then Luca Blondeau and Sheddy Barglan for the visitors. Alex Plat was the first substitution, brought on just before the break.
Volendam took the lead when Veerman found space inside the area and fired past the goalkeeper. The visitors tried to respond but created nothing of real note — both sides registered zero big chances. Niemeijer added a second in the 64th minute, and the home side never looked like conceding.
The statistics tell a story of efficiency rather than dominance. Volendam had 52 per cent possession and nine shots on target, but failed to carve open their opponents. Den Bosch managed only three shots on target despite having more corners and more attacks overall. It was a game decided in the final third, and the hosts got their substitutions spot on.
Volendam's win keeps them in contention for a play-off spot, though they still have work to do. Den Bosch remain 17th on four points and now face a difficult run of fixtures. Cup football has its own rules, but this is the regular season, and the top half is where these teams need to be.
