The Russian Men's Volleyball Super League stands as the premier professional volleyball competition in Russia. Established in 1992, the tournament succeeded the Soviet Men's Volleyball Championship, which had been operating since 1933. It is organized under the auspices of the Russian Volleyball Federation (VVF). The league typically features 16 clubs competing in a demanding schedule. Each team plays 30 matches during the double round-robin regular season. After the regular season concludes, a complex playoff structure determines the champion. The top four teams from the regular season advance directly to the quarter-finals. Teams ranked 5th through 12th compete in a two-legged qualification round to secure the remaining four quarter-final spots. The quarter-finals are contested as a best-of-three series, while the semi-finals, final, and bronze medal series are played as best-of-five series. Zenit Kazan claimed the title in the 2023–2024 season, defeating Dynamo Moscow 3–0 in the final. The competition operates with promotion and relegation links to the second-tier Higher League "A". The winner of the Higher League "A" playoffs earns direct promotion, provided they meet strict licensing requirements. The runner-up of the Higher League "A" faces the 15th-placed Super League team in a transition series decided by a best-of-five format. The last-placed team in the Super League is relegated automatically. Financial and infrastructure licensing plays a crucial role in these movements; for example, in the 2024/25 cycle, the Higher League winner Tyumen declined promotion due to readiness issues, allowing the runner-up to take the spot. Historically, CSKA Moscow holds the record for the most titles with 39. In the post-Soviet era, Zenit Kazan has dominated with 12 titles, followed by Belogorie Belgorod with 8. The league is distinct due to its strict foreign player quota, historically limited to two foreigners per team, and its state-backed financial model where clubs are often funded by state-owned enterprises like Gazprom or Rosneft.
