Makara secured a 2:1 victory over Guayaquil City in their Liga Pro Regular Season clash at the weekend. The result keeps the hosts in fourth place with 48 points from 29 games. Guayaquil City remain in tenth with 36 points after their 11th defeat of the campaign.
The match took an early turn when J. J. Ayovi Caicedo received a red card in the tenth minute for the visitors. Makara had G. Napa booked fifteen minutes in, but the discipline issues continued when M. Miranda was sent off for the home side in the thirty-ninth minute. Both teams reduced to ten men before half-time.
And here's the thing about this result — Makara scored twice while down to ten men. F. Posse opened the scoring in the thirty-fifth minute, then E. Mero equalised for Guayaquil City just before the interval in the forty-fifth. A. I. Campana restored the lead in the sixty-first minute and that proved decisive.
By then the statistics told a familiar story. Makara dominated possession at 54 per cent and created 106 attacks compared to 69 for the visitors. They registered 18 shots with 40 per cent accuracy, while Guayaquil City managed just seven attempts at 25 per cent accuracy. Three big chances created against one suggests the home side found more quality opportunities.
Substitutions came in waves as both sides adjusted to playing with ten men. Makara brought on J. Klinger and E. P. Ladines Calvache in the sixty-third minute, while Guayaquil City responded with changes of their own. The match saw five yellow cards in total, including two for Makara in the fifty-eighth minute.
To be fair, the visitors had not been in great form recently. Their last five matches showed one win, two draws and two losses before this defeat. Makara's run had been stronger with three wins in their previous four games, though they had lost 1:2 to Delfín on the way.
The goal difference now sits at twelve points between the two sides. Makara can still push for a higher finish, while Guayaquil City's hopes of climbing the table are fading fast.
