About

The Major Clubs Limited Over Tournament is the premier domestic List A cricket competition in Sri Lanka. Organised by Sri Lanka Cricket, the tournament serves as the top-tier limited-overs club event within the national pyramid. It operates alongside the Major League Tournament for first-class cricket and the Major Clubs T20 Tournament, though all three involve a similar pool of major clubs. The competition was established in the 2020–21 season, replacing the Premier Limited Overs Tournament which had been discontinued due to structural delays in the domestic system.

Matches are played in the 50-over format, with teams divided into two groups for the league stage. The season concludes with knockout semi-finals and a final. Unlike the first-class structure, where bottom teams may drop to the Governor's Trophy, there is no promotion or relegation between the limited-overs and T20 tournaments. The tournament is distinct from the Sri Lanka Premier League, which is a franchise-based T20 league.

Sinhalese Sports Club holds the record for the most successful participation, having won eight titles when including the predecessor competition. Recent winners include Ace Capital Cricket Club in 2024 and Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club in the 2022–23 season. The competition features clubs such as Badureliya Sports Club, Moors Sports Club, Nondescripts Cricket Club, Colombo Cricket Club, Sebastianites Cricket and Athletic Club, and Colts Cricket Club. These teams form the core of the domestic cricket landscape in the country.
