Atlético Mineiro Women

In December 2018 Atlético Mineiro announced it was putting a women's team back together, six years after shutting one down. The decision was not made in Belo Horizonte alone: CONMEBOL and the Brazilian confederation had begun requiring men's clubs to field women's sides, and the Vingadoras returned to the pitch in 2019 because of it.

What followed the restart was the strongest run in the team's history. Under Vantressa Ferreira the Vingadoras took the Campeonato Mineiro three years on the spin, in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Nationally the record is thinner. The team has never won the Brasileirão Série A1 or the Copa do Brasil; the best run in the cup ended in the last sixteen in 2025.

Players have moved on to bigger stages. Ludmila went from here to Atlético Madrid and later Barcelona; the Colombian defender Jorelyn Carabalí left for Brighton & Hove Albion.

Home is now the Arena MRV, which holds 44,892, a considerable step up from the years between 2019 and 2022 spent at the Arena Gregorão in Contagem and at a ground attached to a shopping centre in Venda Nova. The shirt is the club's black and white stripes, and there is no separate women's crest — the same badge as the men.

The starting point sits a long way back.
