76 Iğdır Belediyespor formed in 2016, the number in its original name referencing the province code for Iğdır. It dropped the municipal tag in September 2021, becoming Iğdır Futbol Kulübü, and a sponsorship deal later extended the official name to Alagöz Holding Iğdır Futbol Kulübü. Lig group in 2022/23, then a third-place finish in 2. Lig's Kırmızı Grup in 2023/24 that still led to promotion — the club won three straight play-off rounds, against İskenderunspor, Erzincanspor and Kastamonuspor, before beating 1461 Trabzon in the final to reach the Turkish First League.

Sinan Bolat, who kept goal for Galatasaray and Kayserispor besides a run through Belgian and Portuguese football, now plays in Iğdır. So does Ryan Mendes, captain of Cabo Verde and part of their 2026 World Cup squad, and Leandro Bacuna, captain of Curaçao and once of Groningen, Feyenoord, Vitesse and Aston Villa. Kenan Koçak, who managed Hannover 96 and had a spell with the Turkey national side, took charge of the team this season.

The Iğdır Şehir Stadyumu, rebuilt and reopened by 2025, now holds 6,000.
