Monarcas confirmed their position at the summit of the Liga de Expansión MX table with a convincing 4-1 victory over Alebrijes de Oaxaca on Saturday evening. The hosts played in front of their supporters at the Estadio Morelos, and took all three points to strengthen their grip on first place in the Apertura phase.
The opening exchanges belonged entirely to Monarcas. R. del Campo broke the deadlock in the twenty-second minute, and M. Rodriguez doubled the advantage just five minutes later. Alebrijes struggled to establish any rhythm, and by then the hosts had already established a comfortable cushion.
The visitors pulled one back through J. Bustos from the penalty spot in the fifty-first minute, but the momentum shifted sharply after that. A. Justo picked up two bookings in five minutes, the second yellow arriving in the sixty-sixth minute sending him to the stands and leaving Alebrijes to finish with ten men.
Monarcas held their nerve and added a fourth goal in the seventy-eighth minute through A. Flores. The home side had already made four changes by that point, bringing on M. Rodriguez, M. Dominguez, R. del Campo and T. Jaimes Rodriguez. Alebrijes managed one more substitution before the final whistle.
The result moves Monarcas further clear at the top with 15 points from seven games, while Alebrijes remain in thirteenth place on seven points. The hosts have lost just twice this season and now look increasingly comfortable in the lead.
