Monarcas claimed a narrow victory over Dorados in the sixth round of Liga de Expansión MX, winning 1-0 on Friday evening. The result keeps the visitors second in the table while Dorados remain in 14th place with five points from five matches.
Monarcas took the lead early, with R. Lopez Aburto finding the net in the fourth minute. Dorados responded with three substitutions and a double change at half-time, bringing on A. Egana, C. Castro, M. Rodriguez and M. Nambo in quick succession. The home side pushed forward but could not find an equaliser.
Monarcas had a chance to extend their advantage when L. Vargas stepped up for a penalty in the 68th minute, only to see his attempt saved. The visitors made four changes in the second half, introducing J. Rengifo, R. Sandoval, B. Sanchez and M. Dominguez as they sought to manage the game. Dorados added J. Martinez and G. Padilla late on.
The statistics tell a story of contrasting approaches. Dorados held 60 per cent possession and completed 470 passes, while Monarcas managed just 324. The hosts registered 15 key passes and 117 into the final third, but created only one big chance. Monarcas were sharper in attack, with seven shots on target from seven attempts inside the area.
Both sides ended level on aerial duels won, 13 apiece, but Monarcas made more clearances - 34 compared to six. The visitors kept their shape better, committing fewer fouls and conceding no offsides. Dorados saw two yellow cards, while Monarcas received one.
