León women secured a 5-2 victory over Pumas UNAM in the opening Regular Season match of the Liga MX women's tournament on Saturday. The result leaves both sides level on points at the foot of the table, each with three wins, three losses, and nine points from six games played.
The hosts opened the scoring in the seventh minute when S. Cortes turned the ball into her own net. León responded quickly, with C. Lien Le finding the net in the fifteenth minute. S. Ribeiro added a second for the visitors before half-time, capitalising on defensive errors in the twenty-sixth minute.
M. Garcia extended León's lead in the thirty-ninth minute, and C. Lien Le completed her brace just before the break with a goal in the forty-fifth minute plus two seconds. Pumas UNAM pulled one back through K. Soto in the seventy-first minute, but León sealed the win with a late strike in the ninety-fourth minute.
León missed a penalty in the sixty-fifth minute when P. Chinchilla failed to convert, a chance that might have changed the momentum. The match featured several substitutions in the second half, with both managers turning to fresh legs to try and shift the game.
The result does little to alter the standings. Both teams remain in the bottom half with identical records, and neither side has yet established a clear advantage in this season's opening phase.
