Match report

Monterrey women secured a comfortable 4-1 victory over Santos Laguna in the Liga MX regular season on Tuesday evening. The fourth-placed side opened the scoring through J. Seoposenwe in the fifth minute and never looked back after that. Santos Laguna, sitting 11th with six points from five games, could only manage a single response before Monterrey pulled away.

L. Garcia doubled the lead with a penalty in the 19th minute, and M. Restrepo added a third just before the break. By then the match was already slipping from Santos Laguna's grasp, and the hosts could only watch from behind. The visitors had plenty of possession to match their advantage, controlling 60 per cent of the ball throughout.

And here's the thing about this result — Santos Laguna actually registered more attacks than their opponents, 91 to 100, yet produced only four shots on target compared to Monterrey's ten. To be fair, the home side did create chances, but they lacked the clinical edge that makes the difference at this level. Mendez then added a fourth in stoppage time to put the game to bed early enough for Monterrey to recover.

The result leaves Santos Laguna in 11th place with just six points and no draws to show for five matches. Monterrey move further clear in fourth with twelve points from four wins and one loss. The gap between them at the top and bottom of the table has never looked wider.
