Tigres UANL Women beat Pachuca Women 2-0 in their Liga MX Regular Season fifth-round clash on Saturday night. The hosts took an early penalty and never looked back, extending their unbeaten run to five matches.
And here's the thing about the opening goal — it came from a penalty just six minutes in, converted by T. Kgatlana. Pachuca had barely settled before the referee pointed to the spot, and the home side took full advantage. To be fair, it set the tone for everything that followed.
Pachuca tried to respond but found themselves picking up bookings. V. Corral went into the referee's book in the seventeenth minute, and by then Tigres were already in control. The second half brought more yellow cards — K. Caicedo, J. Lopez, Aline Gomes, M. Reyes, and N. Nicosia all received cautions between the sixty-fourth and sixty-ninth minutes. The game grew scrappy, but Tigres held their nerve.
M. Reyes added a second goal in the seventy-second minute, then was substituted for A. Delgado just six minutes later. T. Kgatlana followed her own goal-scorer off in the eighty-fifth, replaced by D. Ordonez. Pachuca's A. Veloz, A. Santiago, and E. R. Sanchez Stickel had all been brought on earlier, but the substitutions couldn't change the outcome.
Tigres dominated possession at 53 per cent and registered 56 attacks compared to Pachuca's 43. They managed five shots on target to their opponents' two, while both sides missed eight attempts off target. Pachuca collected three yellow cards against Tigres' two, reflecting the tighter, more frustrated approach from the visitors.
The result keeps Tigres second in the table with 15 points from five wins, while Pachuca remain ninth on seven points after two victories, one draw, and two defeats. By then it was clear that the match had been decided in those first two goals, and the rest was just management of the lead.
