Jürgen Klopp has now taken charge of Germany twice without a win. On Sunday, Greece won 1:0 in Augsburg, their first-ever victory over Germany, and went top of the Nations League group. On Thursday Klopp's debut had ended in a draw after Cody Gakpo equalised late for the Netherlands, so Germany have 1 point from two fixtures. Klopp was by all accounts "unbothered". Bastian Schweinsteiger was not: he said Germany are "no longer a top side" and have nobody who makes the difference. The Netherlands won 2:1 in Belgrade, so Serbia are the only side in the group Germany are ahead of.

That Dutch win cost Liverpool. Gakpo, the scorer against Germany, lasted less than 20 minutes against Serbia, and Alexander Isak has already gone back from Sweden duty with a thigh problem. Manchester United's list is longer. Patrick Dorgu went off during Denmark's 2:0 win over Wales and joins Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes on the treatment table. In Dublin, Ireland beat Israel 3:0. Before the match, Irish MP and former player Daniel Ennis called for a boycott of the tie.
