Westoba Place sits inside the Keystone Centre in Brandon, and in August 2024 its old seats came out for wider, more comfortable ones, trimming capacity from roughly 5,100 down to about 4,600. It is where the Wheat Kings have played since joining the Western Hockey League for the 1967–68 season, after three decades in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

The club took its current shape in 1936. Brandon reached the Memorial Cup final in 1979 off a 125-point regular season built around Brian Propp's 94 goals, then lost it in overtime to the Peterborough Petes. The Ed Chynoweth Cup has come to Brandon three times since, in 1979, 1996 and 2016, and the team returned to a Memorial Cup final in 2010 as tournament hosts, again falling short, this time to the Windsor Spitfires.

Ownership nearly slipped away in 1986, when a loan call-in put the franchise at risk before a group of local businessmen led by Bob Cornell bought it for over $300,000 and kept it in Brandon. Ron Hextall and Propp went into the Hockey Hall of Fame, and Brad McCrimmon came back to run the club as general manager after winning a Stanley Cup with Colorado. More recently Andrei Vasilevskiy and Mark Stone wore the gold and black.

The franchise's roots, though, trace back to a Manitoba junior league team that only found the WHL three decades on.
