Spartak Varna and Ludogorets Share Points in First League
Spartak Varna played out a 1:1 draw with Ludogorets in the seventh round of the First League at Spartak Stadium on Saturday evening. The result keeps both sides in their respective positions, with Ludogorets remaining in second place and Spartak holding seventh. It was a match where the visitors dominated possession but could not break through when it mattered most.
Sámuel Major gave Ludogorets the lead in the sixty-fifth minute, but Simeon Shishkov equalised just three minutes later. The goals came in quick succession after a period of relative calm following two yellow cards in the opening half. By then, Spartak had already picked up bookings from Boris Ivanov and David Valverde Juan.
Ludogorets made three substitutions in the closing stages, bringing on Aguibou Camara and Joel Andersson before the final quarter. Spartak responded with four changes around the eighty-second minute, including Ahmed Ahmedov and Deroy Duarte coming into the fray. More yellow cards followed, with Tsvetoslav Marinov and Tsvetelin Chunchukov both cautioned.
The statistics told a familiar story of dominance without reward. Ludogorets controlled two-thirds of the possession and registered 133 attacks compared to 82, yet Spartak's two shots on target produced the equaliser. The visitors registered nine shots on target and still could not find a winner, while Spartak managed just one corner against ten.
The draw extends Ludogorets' unbeaten run to seven games, though they remain nine points ahead of Spartak in the standings. For Spartak, it was a welcome response after three consecutive defeats, including a heavy 6:0 loss to Levski Sofia. The result does not change the hierarchy, but it suggests the visitors might be more vulnerable than their position implies.
