Circulo Deportivo — Sol de Mayo: 2:1, Torneo Federal A

Circulo Deportivo edged Sol de Mayo 2:1 in the Losers Stage of the Torneo Federal A on Saturday evening. The match, played on 2026-09-06, saw the hosts rescue a point after going behind, with a second-half comeback completed in stoppage time. By then, Circulo had taken a lead they would not relinquish. Rodrigo Juarez opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, capitalising on a moment of space in the box. The visitors responded with pressure of their own, but the breakthrough came at the other end first. Sol de Mayo equalised in the 64th minute, catching the home side out of position. The visitors had been the more dangerous side in possession, though their shots on target were fewer than Circulo's. To be fair, the away side created chances but lacked the cutting edge to take the lead. The match turned on its head in the 80th minute when a Sol de Mayo player received a red card. Circulo, who had been under pressure, suddenly found themselves with a numerical advantage. And here's the thing — it is often the moment a team goes a man down that changes everything, not just the scoreline. Juarez completed his brace in the 90th minute plus two, slotting home after a period of sustained pressure. The away side, reduced to ten men, could only watch as the hosts slipped past them. The final whistle brought relief more than celebration for the visitors. In terms of the numbers, Circulo registered 110 attacks compared to 89 for Sol de Mayo, while holding 56 per cent possession. The hosts recorded four shots on target with eight off target, whereas the visitors managed three on target and one off. Circulo won four corners to two, and their discipline was notably better with just two yellow cards to Sol de Mayo's five before the dismissal. The result moves Circulo to eight points from seven games, while Sol de Mayo remain on six points in ninth place. We had tipped a home win at 49 per cent confidence, and the prediction held up — not by a large margin, but the visitors failed to find a way through when it mattered. Circulo had not won since their 1:0 victory over Jullan Brown on 8 August, ending that run with this result. Sol de Mayo, meanwhile, have not won in six matches, their last success coming against Germinal de Rasón on 16 August. The gap between them in the table may be small, but the momentum now belongs to the hosts.
