Fundación Amigos beat Sol de Mayo 2:0 in the Losers Stage of the Torneo Federal A on Saturday afternoon. The home side took control early and held firm despite a second-half surge from the visitors. The result moves Amigos further clear of the relegation zone while Sol de Mayo remain adrift in eighth place.
N. Ali opened the scoring in the 15th minute, a moment that set the tone for the afternoon. Sol de Mayo pushed for an equaliser but found Amigos' defence compact. The hosts did not travel to make up the numbers in attack, relying instead on quick transitions and a direct approach that troubled the away side.
The game shifted after the break. Sol de Mayo won more corners and maintained possession, but their shots lacked precision. A penalty miss in the 58th minute proved costly — they went for the jugular but could not find the net. By then, Amigos had already established enough of a cushion to weather the pressure.
M. Persia doubled the lead in the 72nd minute, a goal that effectively ended the contest. Sol de Mayo's manager saw his side reduced to ten men in spirit if not in numbers, struggling to create clear-cut chances. The visitors' shots on target totalled just one throughout the match, a reflection of their inability to break down the home defence.
Statistically, the match told its own story. Sol de Mayo dominated possession at 55 per cent and recorded 73 attacks compared to Amigos' 86, but the numbers do not capture the clinical edge of the home side. Amigos hit five shots on target and converted two, while the visitors managed only one shot on target from their 73 attacks. The disparity between possession and output was stark.
Amigos now sit third on ten points from six games, three wins, one draw and two losses. Sol de Mayo remain eighth with six points, two wins and four defeats. The gap between them widens, and for Sol de Mayo, the road to safety grows steeper with each passing match.
The match concluded with three yellow cards scattered across the second half, a sign of frustration rather than aggression. Amigos will take confidence from the result, while Sol de Mayo must find a way to convert possession into something tangible. The tournament is unforgiving, and points are earned, not given.
