Julián Brown took all three points from their trip to face Sol de Mayo, winning 2-0 in the Losers Stage of the Torneo Federal A on Saturday. A. Chiavetto opened the scoring in the 36th minute before B. Mera sealed the win with a second goal in the 83rd. The result leaves Julián Brown six points clear of Sol de Mayo in the table.
Sol de Mayo kept possession for 54 per cent but found no answer to the visitors' structure. Chiavetto's strike came after a period of pressure from Julián Brown, and the hosts never quite recovered their shape. By then, Sol de Mayo had already picked up two bookings, and the game began to slip away.
The visitors were disciplined in the middle of the park. Julián Brown took four yellow cards in total, while the hosts received just one. Mera's goal in the second half stretched the back line once more, and Sol de Mayo could not afford another slip. The statistics show Sol de Mayo had more shots on target, but the visitors were sharper when it counted.
And here's the thing — the numbers do not tell the whole story. Sol de Mayo registered 117 attacks compared to 102 for Julián Brown, yet the difference came in the final third. The hosts had six shots on target and missed, while the visitors converted five attempts into two goals. To be fair, Julián Brown did not need much.
In the table, Sol de Mayo sit eighth with six points from six games, having lost four of their matches. Julián Brown occupy sixth place with nine points, three wins and three defeats. The visitors have not won since their last victory, and this result keeps them in touch with the teams above.
Sol de Mayo's recent form has been difficult. They lost 2-0 to Fundación Amigos last time out and have struggled to string results together. Julián Brown came off a 1-0 win against Santamarina, and the momentum shifted in their favour. The gap between them now widens to three points in the standings.
