Dorados and Tlaxkala played out a 2-2 draw in the Liga de Expansión MX on Saturday, a result that leaves the hosts eighth with eight points after four games and the visitors fifteenth on five from five matches. The match was an exercise in contrasting approaches: Dorados controlled territory and possession, while Tlaxcala relied on structure and quick transitions. And here's the thing — it was the visitors who took the lead, but the hosts responded before the break.
I. Govea opened the scoring in the seventeenth minute, a well-taken effort that gave Dorados the advantage they deserved from their early pressure. Tlaxcala equalised shortly after the half-hour mark through D. Alvarez, who made use of a momentary lapse in the home defence. The interval brought three changes for the hosts, including the introduction of A. Egana, as they looked to rebuild momentum. By then, the game had settled into a rhythm neither side could quite break.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Dorados pushing forward and Tlaxcala looking to exploit space on the counter. J. Rengifo restored the home lead in the sixty-fourth minute, capitalising on a poor defensive clearance. But Tlaxcala refused to fold, and O. Coronel scored a dramatic equaliser in the ninetieth minute, catching the home side off-guard. The visitors had nothing to do all evening in terms of possession, but they punished Dorados from a corner.
The statistics tell the story of a match where one side dominated but could not secure victory. Dorados enjoyed 62 per cent possession and made 104 attacks compared to Tlaxcala's 60, yet their shot accuracy of 24 per cent meant they wasted opportunities. Tlaxcala, meanwhile, made 23 tackles and 45 clearances, showing how much work they had to do to keep the result. Big chances created were two for the hosts and one for the visitors, a narrow margin that perhaps explains the scoreline.
The result does little to shift the table significantly, though Dorados remain eighth with two wins and two draws from their first four matches. Tlaxcala sit fifteenth with only one victory in seven games, a record that suggests they need consistency. The hosts had earlier drawn 2-2 with Mineros de Zacatecas, while the visitors lost their last three league games before this point. To be fair, both sides showed resilience in different ways.
