Match report
It was another evening where neither side could quite pull the trigger. Rapid Bucharest and Universitatea Craiova shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Stadionul Rapid-Giulești on Sunday evening. The result keeps both clubs within touching distance of each other in the Liga I standings, though the gap between third and fifth place remains a point.
And here's the thing about the opening goal — it came from a moment of clarity rather than sustained pressure. N. Stevanovic found the net in the 29th minute, catching the visitors off guard when they thought they had the game under control. To be fair, Craiova had dominated the early exchanges with 55 per cent possession, but possession without penetration is just passing in circles.
The second half brought a different complexion to proceedings. It was the home side that levelled through F. Stojilkovic in the 67th minute, a goal that came after several substitutions had changed the tempo. Both managers brought on fresh legs, with Rapid introducing R. Salceanu while Craiova sent on C. Grameni and O. Morutan in the 79th minute.
By then, the statistics told a story that didn't quite match the result. Rapid managed only 45 per cent possession yet created two big chances compared to their opponents' single opportunity. The home side registered six shots on target with a 40 per cent accuracy rate, while the visitors managed six on target from a higher volume of attempts but with less precision.
The draw brings Rapid to 11 points from six games, maintaining their third-place position. Craiova sit fifth with 10 points, two matches behind the leaders. It was a result that neither side deserved to lose, though both might have fancied their chances of taking all three points with a bit more efficiency in front of goal.
