MSV Duisburg saw off Würzburger Kickers 3-0 at the MSV Arena on Saturday in the third round of the 3. Liga. The hosts moved top of the table with three wins from three, while the visitors remain in eighth place after dropping another point. It was a result that extended Duisburg's unbeaten run to eight games and ended Würzburg's hopes of building momentum.
Lobinger was on target twice in the opening quarter, marking his first start with a brace. He opened the scoring in the ninth minute and doubled the advantage five minutes later, giving his side the game won inside twenty minutes. Würzburg's defender Embaye went close to responding within moments, but the home defence held firm. By then the pattern was set — Duisburg controlling the tempo and pressing forward.
The middle period brought a series of changes as both managers reshuffled their banks. Embaye and Eberle were withdrawn together in the forty-sixth minute, and Duisburg brought on Noss and Bitter for Lobinger in the sixty-fourth. Casar saw yellow before Kraus and Franjic came on for Würzburg, while Duisburg also introduced Viet. The visitors worked the channels but found little penetration against a disciplined back line.
Viet added a third in the seventy-first minute, a well-taken strike that stretched the lead to two goals. Würzburg threw everything at it after that, but the home goalkeeper and defenders saw the game out without further incident. Fleckstein and Ochs both picked up yellows in the closing stages as tension mounted. Duisburg had enough quality to close out a dominant display.
