The name is a giveaway before anything else: Cruz Azul Hidalgo exists because the Cooperativa La Cruz Azul, the workers' cooperative that owns the Mexico City giant, wanted a feeder side carrying the same blue cross.
That instability is the real story. The side turned professional in the Tercera División, climbed to Segunda División "A" in 1994, and won the Segunda División outright the following season to reach Ascenso MX.
That insurance mattered. In 2014 the original Hidalgo franchise was sold off to the owners of Zacatepec 1948, and Cruz Azul Jasso simply took the Hidalgo name and carried the project forward in the Liga Premier.
