D. Joveljic opened the scoring in the 12th minute, a strike that gave the hosts early momentum. M. Haile-Selassie levelled things before the break in the 38th, and Seattle went ahead again in the 48th through Joveljic's second goal of the afternoon. By then it looked like the home side might walk away with all three points.
S. Brunell picked up a yellow card in the 51st minute before being substituted himself in the 57th, a double blow for the Sounders. Chicago then began to turn the screw, bringing on R. Lod in the 63rd as they pushed for an equaliser. The visitors' persistence paid off when R. Lewandowski nodded home in the 82nd minute.
There were plenty of changes at both ends in the final quarter. Seattle introduced S. Gomez and A. Roldan together in the 69th, while the Fire responded with A. Saletros and J. Dean in the 73rd. P. Zinckernagel came on for Chicago in the 88th as they sought a winner that never materialised.
