Bucaramanga took a point from their visit to Estadio Palogrande, beating Onse Caldas 3:1 in the Clausura round of 12. Emerson Batalla and Edwin Castro fired two first-half goals before the break, and the visitors added a second goal in each half to close out the match.
By then the pattern was set. Batalla opened the scoring in the second minute, Castro doubled the advantage twelve minutes in, and Onse Caldas pulled one back through Felix Charrupi after fifty-nine minutes before Dayro Moreno levelled at sixty-one. A VAR penalty review for Batalla in the sixty-ninth minute came to nothing, and the visitors held their nerve.
Onse Caldas had seventy per cent of possession, but the numbers tell a different story. They registered twenty-six shots to Bucaramanga's seven and expected 1.65 goals against 0.58, yet the away side scored twice as many. It was a classic case of chances going begging, and the home side found no answer when the visitors switched to a back three.
The statistics were uneven, and so was the discipline. Bucaramanga collected six yellow cards, more than the hosts, but the key moment was the cancelled penalty. Onse Caldas had created nothing in the big-chances column while their opponents registered three, and the visitors kept them in it through sheer efficiency.
The result leaves Onse Caldas fifth with thirty-three points from nineteen games, while Bucaramanga sit thirteenth on twenty-three. The home side had lost three of their last five, including a 1:0 defeat to Deportes Tolima, and this result could not have come at a worse time.
