The finish brought a consolation goal. José Manuel López added his second in the 89th minute, and Facundo Colidio got one for Vasco in stoppage time. By then the match had settled into a different rhythm entirely. The away end never stopped, but it was too little too late.
The statistics tell a story of efficiency rather than dominance. Palmeiras held 57 per cent possession and created three big chances from 10 shots, converting two of them. Vasco had a slightly higher expected goals total of 2.15 to 1.74 but could only manage four shots on target. The visitors made more tackles and interceptions, but the numbers don't capture the structural advantage Palmeiras maintained.
The result keeps Palmeiras at the summit of the table with 52 points from 25 games. Vasco remain in 16th place with 25 points after 24 matches. The gap between them is now 27 points, and the hosts cannot afford another slip if they want to maintain their lead.
