Libertad and Emelec Share Points in Lively Draw
Libertad Asunción and Emelec played out a 1:1 draw in the Liga Pro regular season on Friday evening. The match at Estadio Federativo Reina del Cisne ended level after both sides found the net once. «And here's the thing» — the result keeps both clubs in their current positions rather than shifting the table significantly.
Cristhian Valencia gave the hosts the lead just before half-time, striking in the 45th minute plus one. Emelec responded quickly after the break with Jose Francisco Cevallos pulling level in the 61st minute. The match saw three yellow cards — Jefferson Valverde for Emelec in the 16th, Rodrigo Morinigo and Bryan Caicedo both for Libertad later on. «By then» the intensity had grown, with several substitutions coming through in the second half.
Libertad made four changes during the game, bringing on Juan Pablo Ruiz Gomez, Francisco Pizzini, and Angelo Mina all at the 56th minute mark. Edu Pineda followed for Libertad in the 63rd, while Antony Chere and D. Coronel came on together at 70 minutes. Emelec added Luis Fragozo at 76 minutes and Ronie Carrillo in the 85th, with Vilinton German Branda Merlin also replacing a host in the 83rd.
The statistics tell a story of controlled possession but limited clarity. Libertad held 51 per cent of the ball and registered eight shots on target, while Emelec managed only four despite having 49 per cent possession. One big chance was created by the hosts, but Emelec failed to produce any of their own. «To be fair» the shot accuracy figures — 50 per cent for Libertad against 31 per cent for the visitors — suggest both sides struggled to finish properly.
Both teams completed 329 successful passes, though Libertad attempted 397 while Emelec went for 393. The hosts won 13 of 22 aerial duels compared to Emelec's nine wins from the same number of attempts. Libertad also recorded 12 key passes against 10 for the visitors, though Emelec made more tackles with 14 compared to five.
The result leaves Libertad in eighth place with 37 points from 27 matches, while Emelec remain twelfth on 32 points. Both sides have played the same number of games and have identical defeat tallies of ten losses. The hosts had won three of their previous five league matches before this draw, while Emelec's recent form showed two wins, two losses and a draw.
