Emelec beat Manta 1-0 in the Liga Pro regular season on Tuesday evening. The match took place at Estadio Banco del Pacífico Capwell in Guayaquil. Aníbal Leguizamón gave the hosts the lead in the seventy-fifth minute.
There was a penalty cancelled by VAR in the seventeenth minute after Gonzalo Nápoli was booked. Nápoli was then substituted for Robert Burbano in the fifty-sixth minute. Manta lost Luca Klimowicz late on, the second red card of the night coming in stoppage time.
Emelec kept possession with sixty-two per cent of the ball. They registered nine shots to Manta's nine, but only four found the target compared to a single effort from the visitors. The hosts created two big chances while Manta mustered none.
By then both sides had seen players sent off. The away team lost their first red card in the sixty-third minute when Juan Nazareno was dismissed. The home side waited until the closing stages to part with Luca Klimowicz, which changed the shape of the final minutes.
