Deportivo Garcilaso saw off UCVM Moquegua 2-0 in the Clausura fourth round on Saturday evening, keeping a second consecutive clean sheet against the visitors. The hosts took the lead through B. Da Silva in the twenty-sixth minute and added a second just after the hour mark when F. Arancibia struck in the eighty-third. It was a comfortable evening at home for the third-placed side.
Moquegua had something to prove after their goalless draw earlier in July, but they could not trouble the Garcilaso defence. The home side made the most of their chances — they created one big opportunity and converted it twice. By then, the visitors were already looking tired, making seven substitutions between the sixtieth and eighty-seventh minutes in a bid to change things.
The statistics tell a familiar story. Moquegua held 54 per cent possession but managed only one shot on target all evening. Garcilaso, with less possession, scored twice. They had three shots on target against four off target, which is not great accuracy, but cup football has its own rules and here the hosts took what they needed.
There were three yellow cards — Y. Zapata, C. Ramirez and C. Mejia — but no reds. The home side won half their aerial duels and completed 275 passes compared to 348 for the visitors. The numbers suggest a match where Moquegua passed the ball around but could not find a way through.
Garcilaso now sit on 45 points from 25 games, eight clear of the relegation zone. Moquegua remain fifteenth on 25 points, twelve behind safety and with only six wins all season. The gap between these two sides in the table has not changed, but the confidence gap just widened.
