Bodø/Glimt took all three points from Valerenga with a 2-1 victory in the Eliteserien's 17th round of matches on Friday evening. The result keeps the visitors top of the table while Valerenga remain rooted in 11th place, 25 points adrift of the leaders.
And here's the thing about the opening exchanges — Valerenga looked dangerous early on but Bodø/Glimt struck first through Andreas Helmersen in the 19th minute. The hosts had made a substitution just five minutes before, bringing on Fidel Ambina, perhaps sensing they needed fresh legs to get back into the game. To be fair, Valerenga pushed forward with intent after going behind.
The second half saw Bodø/Glimt make a double change at the break, bringing on Sondre Fet and Magnus Westergaard. By then Valerenga had equalised through Gábor Rajković in the 87th minute, a late surge that had the stadium stirring. But Haidar Aleesami had already restored the visitors' lead in the 76th minute, and that proved decisive.
Valerenga came out fighting in the closing stages. They substituted Sebastian Jarl and Carl Lange together in the 77th and 83rd minutes respectively, throwing bodies forward. Rajković's goal in the 87th minute gave them something to believe in, but time had run out on a comeback.
The statistics told a familiar story. Bodø/Glimt dominated possession at 61 per cent and created 106 attacks compared to 63 for Valerenga. They also registered six big chances against three, and their shots found the target more reliably — 29 per cent accuracy to 20 per cent. Valerenga had 11 shots, Bodø/Glimt 13, but it was quality over quantity that decided matters.
What this means for the table is straightforward. Bodø/Glimt extend their lead at the summit to 25 points with two matches remaining. Valerenga's 22 points from 19 games places them firmly in the lower half, and with defeats to Ham-Kam and Tromsø in their recent run, the pressure is mounting.
