Shenyang Urban beat Shanghai Shenhua 3:1 in the Super League's twenty-first round on Sunday. The home side took the lead through Jeffinho in the ninth minute and held on despite a second-half surge from the visitors. Shanghai controlled more possession but could not convert their dominance into goals.
Jeffinho opened the scoring early, finishing a move in the ninth minute. Kunimoto doubled the advantage with a penalty in the thirty-second minute, while Saulo Mineiro added a second spot-kick in the seventy-first minute. Jeffinho sealed the win with his second goal in the eighty-sixth minute.
Shanghai dominated possession at 56 per cent and registered 109 attacks compared to Shenyang's 80. The visitors created fewer clear-cut opportunities, managing only one big chance against Shenyang's three. Their shot accuracy was poor at 17 per cent, with just two attempts finding the target.
The home side was clinical with their chances, hitting 27 per cent accuracy with three shots on target. Shenyang won 14 of 30 aerial duels and made 193 passes into the opposition half. They also completed 239 out of 323 total passes, showing composure under pressure.
Shanghai's recent form had been inconsistent, losing to Shanghai SIPG and Tianjin Teda in consecutive matches. Shenyang, meanwhile, had bounced back from a heavy defeat to Shandong Taishan with a win over Chongqing Tongliang Long. The result leaves Shenyang in thirteenth place with 25 points from 25 games.
Shanghai remain eighth on 31 points after 26 matches, but the loss cuts into their margin over the mid-table sides. The visitors' inability to finish chances proved decisive on a day when Shenyang's efficiency told.
